Such a shame that Josh Griffiths of Swansea Harriers wasn't mentioned in the article given he was the fastest GB male, starting in the club runners section and beating the "elite" british runners thereby securing his place in the World Champs. This is the story we should be celebrating, local runner shows us all how it's done! Well done Josh!! The article cites the men's and woman's winner. Running as part of a club involves many social interactions and the race is a not only good for your health but raises money for charities.
I would like to see the 6 run the race in 2hr 17 mins that is a good achievement and not of an overweight person! Comment posted by Lisa, at 23 Apr Lisa. Mens and womens races today were fantastic. What a run from Josh Griffiths Comment posted by charlieboy, at 23 Apr charlieboy. Could not agree more. Athletics is pretty much like cycling was a few years back. Hard to believe any performance, never mind when records are broken. I loved the sport but now it's a farce. You watch championships and know down the line some of the medals will be taken away. You also have the nonsense of plastic internationals.
For instance a european championships is not european anymore. Comment posted by U, at 23 Apr U Twenty-six miles in minutes: most people couldn't do that on a bike! And congrats to Josh Griffiths. Great story. The long and short of this is that in the men's race, the leader doesn't have anyone pacing them in the closing stages of the race. If you run men and women together, the leader of the women's race can potentially be paced by a man to a very fast time.
Hence why there are two women's world records. Hope this clarifies for everyone. When it comes to the marathon I don't see why women and men can't race together like most road races, there wouldn't be a need for a women only world record then. Great running though! So many trolls on here!

Comment posted by cuddlesthekillerwhale, at 23 Apr cuddlesthekillerwhale. Looking through the comments posted on here I find people complaining that there is no mention of Josh Griffiths.
I can only assume they are commenting without having actually read the article as I had no trouble finding mention of Josh's great achievement. So she gets to keep her gold medal and WR and has had her results annulled from Sep Ohorogu deja vu. If the authorities were serious about it then they'd annul her results from the first missed test! Comment posted by George, at 24 Apr George Josh Griffths what a run in one of the worlds great marathons!
If you want to enjoy something run meters if you want to achieve something run a marathon. I would never explain to a non runner what it means to run,I don't really care about drug cheats we carry on doing what we love,If anyone would like to run get along to the local Parkrun the biggest success story in the UK ever.
It's sad, but because of the state of the sport I can't help but be suspicious that such an old athlete 35 is well past her prime has set numerous personal bests this year. Indeed, just nine seconds separated Bekele from Wanjiru as they passed 40 kilometres, with a thrilling climax in store.
For much of the last mile, Bekele looked strong and capable of shutting down the gap. But Wanjiru was able to find something extra in the dying embers, and as he moved past Buckingham Palace into the home straight, he was pulling away from Bekele. Eventually he had more than enough to come home in first position. Watching the end of London Marathon: Daniel Wanjiru wins by holding off Bekele, which is quite something to say. The highlight of the day came in the women's event, though.
The pace set by Keitany in the early portion of the women's race was nothing short of blistering, as she left the rest of the field trailing, and at the halfway mark, she was on to break the overall world record also held by Radcliffe. Indeed, as noted by sports journalist Nick Harris, she went through 30 kilometres much faster than any woman has before:. That is unbelievable. The effects of that early assault did begin to take their toll on the leader in the final third of the race.
While she was a long way clear of the chasing pack, her pace did begin to slow, and the overall world-record mark of did look to be out of her reach; the women's only one was still on, though. A little further back, the pace was having an effect on the other competitors.
Dibaba, who typically excels over this distance, was looking in real trouble with a mile to go:. As Keitany is into mile 25, tirudibaba starts to clutch her mid-section. Problems for the track legend in 2nd place. Those issues meant Keitany could enjoy the final stages of the race untroubled, and she picked the pace up again with the women-only world record of in sight. In the end, she came through well under that mark and will surely have Radcliffe's time in sight next time she goes the marathon distance.
